And now I feel about this big

Between the 8th graders volleyball and Diana's 7th grade match I went for a little walk. As I passed some 8th grade Owego girls, one of them (long, straight, dark hair) says "Hi, I'm Nancy ***'s daughter" like she's happy to see me. Not being able to figure out the joke, I reply, "That's nice" and keep walking.

A while later a good friend of a good friend shows up. I haven't seen her in a year or so. We get along pretty well and her birthday is close to mine. Her husband is a great guy. Her and her daughter have similar very curly hair, like mine. I know a lot of things about her, but she is half of "Nancy and Jeff". At some point I may have known a last name, but I've never needed it.

She happens to still be wearing her work name badge. Her last name is ***. Carp. The daughter has used a hair straightener. I remember how nice it is as a young adult to see a friendly face in a strange place (It's still a great feeling). I feel like a jerk.
